Meaningful (to me at least) Quotes

This is part of a collection of my favorite quotes.  Whenever I find quotes that I like, I will try to put them here.

On Fear of Success.

“Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate.  Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure.  It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us.  We ask ourselves, Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous?

Actually, who are you not to be?

You are a child of God.  Your playing small does not serve the world.  There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won’t feel insecure around you.  We are all meant to shine, as children do.  We were born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us.  It’s not just in some of us; it’s in everyone.  And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same.  As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others.”

~Marianne Williamson~ ( This excerpt was also quoted by Nelson Mandela in his inauguration speech in 1994).

On Love.

“I have found the paradox, that if you love until it hurts, there can be no more hurt, only more love.”  ~Mother Teresa~

“One of the hardest thing in life is having words in your heart that you can’t utter.”  ~James Earl Jones~

“Love is just a word until someone comes along and gives it meaning.”  ~Unknown author~

“You can close your eyes to the things you do not want to see, but you cannot close your heart to the things you do not want to feel.”  ~Unknown author~

“It hurts to love someone and not be loved in return, but what is the most painful is to love someone and never find the courage to let the person know how you feel.”  ~Unknown author~

On Friendship

“Sometimes you put walls up not to keep people out, but to see who cares enough to break them down.”  ~Unknown author~

“Love is when two people know everything about each other and are still friends.”  ~Unknown author~

“A friend is someone who knows the song in your heart and can sing it back to you when you have forgotten.”  ~Unknown author~

“Sometimes being a friend means mastering the art of timing.  There is a time for silence.  A time to let go and allow people to hurl themselves into their own destiny.  And a time to prepare to pick up the pieces when it’s all over.”  ~Gloria Naylor~

“It is by chance that we met, by choice that we become friends.”  ~Unknown author~
