The Autumn Beauty Poem

About a week ago I wrote a short essay about Autumn, followed by the poem below. I separated the poem here for the purpose of submitting it to the Thursday Poet Rally entry this week. Please take the picture here to take you to the Poets Rally blog to see more poems from other poets.

what a wonderful name you have
what a gentle nature
what a peaceful feeling you bring,
lucky are those
who have been swept away by your wind
because they’re forever changed,
doomed are those
who have been touched by your color
because they’ll forever ache for your beauty,
you’re always beautiful to me
and i will always adore you
even with your flaws,
you are a wonder on this Earth
an awe to us
and we are humble to have you

  1. This piece is as good for autumn as it is for a lover.

My favorite: and i will always adore you even with your flaws.

I’m curious of your haikus so I’ll be back soon.

  2. interesting interpretation you have there, Nel. I always love to see when people come up with a different interpretation to my writing that I didn’t intend it in the first place, but that’s art. I must say, I love your interpretation. Thank you for that.

  5. To me this sounds like a universal love song to any object, and I do not mean to offend when I say that. What ties it to autumn is the photograph, and it could equally well have been about summer or spring, or even winter. That said (like I said, no offense) I really like it, especially because of its versatility. Beautiful and ‘fresh’ words!

    • Thank you for your feedback, CC. I truly appreciate it. You are right come to think of it. I wrote this poem as part of an essay. It worked so well with the essay, but you’re right, it looks so common now standing by itself. The picture was also from the essay. Thank you for your meaningful feedback. I like and appreciate it. Do stop by again.
