It is IT!

i let it take me anywhere
everywhere, all over the place
to the places in this world that
i’ve never been or never will
and to a known place called the past
i let it stay alive in me
becoming whatever feeling
it wants me to be
joyful, excitement
sadness, loneliness, desperation
longing, hunger, exasperation

i let it disturb me
put me in tears
knock me upside down
churn my stomach until i get sick
or put me in a spell
moving my head and hands without me noticing
making me up on my feet
taking me on a dance around the room
allowing my fantasy to run wild
testing my limit to the core

yes, i can’t live without it
it needs people like me to adore it
to appreciate it
to love it
to raise it high to the sky
it’s my language
my expression
every drop of my blood screams for it
it’s my nourishment
my drug
my addiction

it’s in my everyday language
i speak it fluently
not a day passed without it
i hear it
i hear ’em all the time
haunted by them day and night
and nowhere else to turn
am slaved by it sometimes
no other way than
to surrender

no, I’m not talking about love
not even about Rumi’s magical poetry
or any other poems
it’s something deeper than that
i live in its notes
in its rhythm
in its instrument
in its sound
it’s where i go to hide
to dream
and to hope

Music was my refuge. I could crawl into the space between the notes and curl my back into loneliness.
~ Maya Angelou~

*I hope you have guessed by now what IT is. Yes, it’s music. I wish I can share with you a list of my magical IT, but I’m afraid the list is too long. Once in a while I put them as part of my poetry writing because some songs have inspired me to write when the mind was completely blank. The best part about music, though, is to be awed by it, especially by new songs. There have been so many moments when I first heard a new song and it felt like the world around me stopped for a moment…until that song was over. Moment like that is what I call magical. It’s when they can make me speechless and take me on a journey far, far away. I’m positive you all have your magical IT too. Never stop listening to them, never stop being inspired by them.

On Broken and Hopeful

oh wounded heart
cry if you want to cry
empty your eyes out
flooded My garden with your tears
oh lonesome soul
scream ’til your throat hurts
empty your lungs out
throw out your silent burdens

a broken spirit
I know you’re hurting inside
I feel your loneliness
hold on to Me when no one else to lean on
I’m never far from you
come look for My light
be silent, be still
feel Me in your deepest being

* The poem above was inspired by JJ Heller’s song, What Love Really Means. I hope you can enjoy the song as much as I do. What a beautiful message!

The Christmas 2011 Countdown: 8 days

Eight more days ’til Christmas, my first Christmas at home again in…uhm…way too many years. It’s been so long, let’s just put it that way. I’m too lazy to use my left brain and count.

I’m thinking of posting at least one post each day that has Christmas flavor until the C-day. This is my way of appreciating this year’s holiday season. Join me in counting down to Christmas, and what would a Christmas celebration be like without songs. A festivity has to have music. So why not start the countdown with music.

One of my favorite one from the not so old, yet still a classic, is John Lennon’s Happy Christmas, War is Over.

If you’ve had enough with the oldies and same ol’ tune every year, below are some suggestions of newer Christmas songs.

And of course, my favorite one is below. My head just automatically moves as soon as I hear this tune. How can you not? Listen to it.

Do you have some of your favorite songs that you would like to share? Please list them in the comment section, and maybe post the youtube link if you have it. Happy listening! 🙂

Hate Me Then

This piece below came out while I was listening to Hate Me by Blue October from their album Foiled. It has nothing to do with the lyrics, but it somewhat inspired and moved me to write the following. Feel free to listen to it while reading this. It’s available at youtube. Warning, the song has one or two swear words. If that offends you, I suggest skip it.

the image is tore in pieces
the script is burnt
the bottom is scraped
nothing left to wipe
on your way out
take your shadow with you
wipe your footsteps
erase your lingering smells
but carry this sorrow on your shoulders
for it’s yours now
use it as a cloth
to wipe any sinister dropping
left on the corner of your mouth
or use it as a pillow
to lay your heart at night
for even an empty heart
needs a company
like an empty cup
needs its saucer
for even an empty heart
needs a rest
so it can continue its next score
tomorrow is another day
another hunting experience
more arrows to release
more bodies to lie on the ground
trees have been chopped
branches are all broken
birds have flown away
all habitats are gone
chased away or hunted
the play ground is destined to be deserted
eventually empty

…hate me then

Songs of My Heart

have you noticed?
some songs are like magnet
they pull you in
then you’re trapped
can’t stop listening
don’t know how to get away
face it, you’re bewitched

have you noticed?
some songs are so inspiring
the lyrics talk to you
wake you up, moving something inside
blood starts rolling
a mental goal is written in your head
uh-huh, yeah, can’t wait to start what it is

have you noticed?
some songs just keep coming back
no knocking, no waiting for permission
melody invited itself in
lyrics followed
like it or not
you start joining the band

have you noticed?
some songs should not be listened in public
privacy of your own room is advised
when your body is free of bouncing
when some sound are free to escape from lips and nostrils
maybe with your dogs only as company
they’re forgiving creatures, born that way

have you noticed?
some songs can stop you dead on your track
took your breath away
life around you in slow motion
you close your eyes
an image presents itself
and a new memory is created

have you noticed?
some songs should come with a warning
“stay away when you think you’re falling”
it has a power to explode a dam
soon water will gush out
and it’s too late to stop
from falling deeper

dVerse Open Link Night ~ Week 18

21 Guns, by GreenDay

Love the lyrics of this song, fits with what I believe about war.  Enjoy.

21 Guns

Green Day

Do you know what’s worth fighting for?

When it’s not worth dying for?

Does it take your breath away?

And you feel yourself suffocating?

Does the pain weigh out the pride?

And you look for a place to hide?

Did someone break your heart inside?

You’re in ruins

One, 21 guns

Lay down your arms, give up the fight

One, 21 guns

Throw up your arms into the sky, you and I

When you’re at the end of the road

And you lost all sense of control

And your thoughts have taken their toll

When your mind breaks the spirit of your soul

Your faith walks on broken glass

And the hangover doesn’t pass

Nothing’s ever built to last

You’re in ruins

One, 21 guns

Lay down your arms, give up the fight

One, 21 guns

Throw up your arms into the sky, you and I

Did you try to live on your own

When you burned on the house and home?

Did you stand too close to the fire

Like a liar looking for forgiveness from a stone?

When it’s time to live and let die

And you can’t get another try

Something inside this heart has died

You’re in ruins

One, 21 guns

Lay down your arms, give up the fight

One, 21 guns

Throw up your arms into sky

One, 21 guns

Lay down your arms, give up the fight

One, 21 guns

Throw up your arms into the sky, you and I
